Dreams of Agriculture (2020)
Acrylic and Posca, 122 x 122 cm
Dreams of Agriculture was born from an ambition to begin drawing at scale. This desire to be visible is inspired by street art, where scaling techniques are used to render a smaller sketch at ‘larger than life’ proportions. Scaling produces greater visual impact, producing a viewing experience that is more direct, relatable and even immersive for new audiences.
The composition is strongly themed around ideas of scale, in particular the notion of an ‘world within a world’ (illustrated by the detailed panels set within a larger ‘global’ motif.
The original image is a small ‘thumbnail’ paper sketch measuring approx 4cm square. This thumbnail is then ‘exploded’ onto a plywood board measuring 4ft square. Taking up the tools of street artists, a range of Posca ‘paint pens’ are used to draw through a range of scales, ranging from thick abstract lines to fine detailed illustrations.
